Wellbore complexity continues to increase in both the conventional and unconventional market. In North America, 3+ mile laterals are no longer the rarity they once were and conventional operators on land and offshore continue to target increasingly difficult to access reservoirs from existing infrastructure. This is all being done without the benefit of real-time, autonomous and standardized readings on the quality of the rock being drilled without deploying time consuming and/or expensive downhole tools. DrillDocs provides an attractive alternative, they are unique in that they have developed and are currently validating a robust computer vision solution at surface which can in real-time analyze the quantity and quality of cuttings and carvings in the shaker. This has the potential to improve operational decision making, ensure wellbore stability and help avoid drilling dysfunction while materially lowering the costs for operators.
DrillDocs is earlier in the development process than we would typical highlight. However, we view this as one of the more exciting developments to come to market in the drilling space in recent months and has recently deployed with a major operator in the Northeast.
