There is no shortage of lists available to summarize 2023, but here at Darcy, we have a unique data set with activity on Darcy Connect from over 10,000 energy company Connect Users. Our data highlights which innovators gained most attention on Darcy Connect through views, clicks, likes, follows, meetings scheduled, fundings, and other factors. Combined with analysis from our Research Team about technology developments and market traction, we have selected the Top 10 Innovators from 2023 in each of our coverage channels. This is our way of saying: "these are the innovators that your peers are most interested in, and that our Researchers view as novel and impactful - so you should learn more about them". In this article, you will find the Innovators that made it on the list in the category of Transportation Electrification.
But there is far more detail to look at than what you'll find here.
- The Innovator names are all linked to their Storefront, where you can find in-depth information on their products, business models, and our Research Team's insights. Here, Connect Users are able to schedule meetings with the Innovators or request updates.
- Throughout Q1, you will find weekly articles like this with Top 10 lists from our Oil & Gas, Power & Utilities, Sustainability, and Energy Transition research programs.
- All articles will be followed by a Darcy Live Event. On the Event page, you can find the full Darcy Live schedule for Q1.
Here you can find our event for Transportation Electrification: Best of 2023: Transportation Electrification, scheduled for Thursday, February 8, 2024.
The Top 10 Innovators from 2023 in Transportation Electrification (in random order):
- itselectric: Provides L2 EV charging stations in a unique form factor for urban centers using a delivery model friendly for property owners. In 2023, itselectric earned a grant award from the Joint Office of Energy and Transportation, partnered with Swtch, and won Fast Company’s 2023 “Next Big Thing In Tech” award.
- Nuvve: Early provider of bidirectional EVSE, with a focus on commercial V2G applications. Product line has expanded to both AC and DC, up to 125kW charge rate. Notable partnership with Blue Bird for battery electric school buses, and recently announced 500th deployment.
- Highland Electric: Turnkey battery electric bus (BEB) provider offering subscription-based model to reduce barriers of fleet electrification. Also uses this model for depot charging needs. Has achieved strong traction and even stronger pipeline, including deployment of largest BEB fleet operator (Montgomery County). Has experience with helping customers use EPA’s Clean School Bus Program.
- Rhythmos: Provides fleet managed charging software to fleet owners with an approach that translates wholesale electricity market dynamics and grid-side constraints to enable whole-system-optimization. Further analytics enable EV detection, forecasting and service transformer loading analysis. Recently partnered with Driivz.
- Synop: Provides fleet managed charging software that captures both on-site and off-site charging optimization (by way of fleet operations and routing analytics). Launched Synop Link (solution to optimize all on-site DER) and Charge Lab facility in Brooklyn, NY. Recent partnership with Lion Electric, pilots with Highland, National Grid, and others.
- WeaveGrid: Residential managed charging platform with a broad range of functionality (from EV detection to program enrollment and implementation) and flexible integration with utility IT/OT. Involved with US’s largest managed charging program (PG&E) and testing enhanced charging for grid optimization with Portland General, among many others. Recently partnered with Wallbox.
- ev.energy: Residential managed charging platform with turnkey offering and robust integration network for EV and EVSE (with plans to expand to solar and battery inverters). Working to scale managed charging across utilities like Ameren, ConEd, National Grid, and UKPN. Working on integration with control room IT/OT (DERMS) for enhanced charging (beyond TOU optimization).
- Uplight: Digital customer engagement analytics platform that integrates disparate utility datasets within common environment to deliver cross-functional use cases (from EV propensity modeling to program marketing and enrollment). Uplight is expanding into a broader data integration solution and made waves in industry by agreeing to acquire leading DERMS provider AutoGrid.
- JD Power ZappyRide: Offers a commonly white-labeled platform by which utilities can engage their fleet-owning customers with tools like online marketplaces, TCO calculator, and routing optimization . Working with long list of utilities, including APS, Austin Energy, ConEd, DLC, DTE, Evergy, PG&E, SCE, and Xcel Energy. JD Power acquired ZappyRide at the beginning of 2023.
- Sawatch Labs: Provides fleet optimization software to identify electrification opportunities down to the specific vehicle, for both utilities’ own fleets and for fleet owners within utilities’ footprints. Partners with Geotab for telematics data collection. Deployed by utilities like FPL/NextEra and Xcel, as well as major fleet owners like Verizon.
