Welcome to Darcy Partners.
We’re the leading technology-focused market intelligence platform for the energy industry. Our customers (we call them members), such as Constellation, Dominion Energy, National Grid and Southern California Edison, are some of the most forward-looking and innovative energy companies. They become members of the Darcy network because we help them find emerging technologies that will solve some of their toughest challenges and enable their long-term growth.
Our member-driven model is designed to break down the barriers to industry collaboration, allowing members big and small to learn from each other. We create value for our customers in various ways, but one of our best-known offerings is our ability to connect our customers with the thousands of dynamic startups working to positively impact the world’s energy ecosystem. Our unique platform (Darcy Connect) allows our customers to attend Darcy Live events and access our market research, startup (we call them innovator) database and technology frameworks.
What is Darcy Research?
The Research Team provides unique insights about emerging technologies to Darcy’s customers, primarily via three key channels:
- Darcy Live – weekly virtual events that showcase the most exciting emerging technology companies and address strategic technology areas (e.g., predictive analytics for T&D grid assets)
- Darcy Connect – a unique and proprietary platform that allows members to connect with innovators and fellow members and access the world's most curated energy tech startup database
- Darcy Concierge – Darcy’s Research Team collaborates with customers to solve pressing technology priorities while also ensuring that content can be utilized for the benefit of other Darcy members
- Darcy In-Person Events – Darcy’s Research Team executes world-class operator roundtables and innovation forums to surface industry best practices and impactful technology to Darcy members
As a Senior Research Associate or Technical Manager or Director focused on Grid Modernization and Grid Technology, defined as the emerging technology solutions which can enhance the modeling, analysis, design, construction, operation and/or ongoing maintenance of transmission and distribution grid assets, from high voltage power lines down to service transformers (note: this role will not have primary responsibility for “grid edge” technologies like AMI and DERMS, but may support research in this area as needed). As a researcher, you’ll work closely with startups in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. You’ll be leading the research and delivery of insights on topics such as grid-enhancing technologies (e.g., dynamic line rating, power flow controllers, advanced conductors.), data center demand flexibility, next-gen smart grid technologies (e.g., novel sensors, solid-state transformers), grid modeling and planning tools (e.g., new power flow analysis solutions) and enhance asset management platforms (e.g., asset health monitoring, predictive analytics) and more to support some of the most innovative energy companies looking to uncover, engage, vet and deploy emerging tech solutions.
What Will You Do?
- You'll uncover industry challenges and technology needs by directly engaging our members (i.e., this role is client-facing)
- You’ll develop the strategic technology topics and research priorities for your areas of focus
- You’ll be a thought leader on industry trends for your areas of focus and advise members on how to evaluate and deploy emerging technology solutions
- You'll conduct primary research by directly engaging innovative technology providers and startups (and often their end users) to extract valuable insights into technology value proposition, demonstrated capabilities, and lessons learned from early-movers
- You’ll conduct secondary (“desk”) research via ongoing review of industry reports, whitepapers, press releases, news articles, public filings and more
- You’ll prepare and host Darcy Live events and our In-Person events that foster industry connections and peer-to-peer knowledge transfer
- You'll distill complex information about technology providers and their solutions into actionable, proprietary frameworks (i.e., market maps and technology comparisons), aimed to accelerate technology evaluation efforts
- You'll collaborate daily within a cross-functional team to collectively exceed customer success goals and drive growth in business development (e.g., account management, business development)
- You'll actively use Darcy Connect to publish and distribute your research studies, continuously enhancing user experiences and platform content
What Will You Need?
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related scientific field
- 4+ years of research, consulting, engineering, operations or project development experience, with a specific focus on Grid Technology experiences are a plus
- 2+ years of experience in electric grid planning, design, construction and/or operations (field or control) is strongly preferred
- Exposure to the operations and culture of the power industry, preferably via experience with an industry player (e.g., utility, independent power producer, ISO/RTO) or a company providing technology or consulting/technical services
- The aptitude to quickly gain an in-depth understanding of technology but also synthesize complex information into easy-to-digest deliverables (namely PowerPoint presentations)
- Excellent verbal and written communication and the confidence to engage both client senior leaders as well as technology innovators and entrepreneurs
- Strong attention to detail and an ability to handle multiple projects in a highly organized manner
- A strong commitment and pride to quality output, as well as a long-term desire to establish a reputation and expertise in the power sector as a thought leader for Grid Technology development and deployment
- Team-oriented and capable of receiving and providing feedback in a fast-paced environment that emphasizes rigor and work quality
- Self-driven and collaborative working style that benefits from periodic oversight and guidance but flourishes with relatively hands-off leadership approaches
What Do We Offer?
- Competitive salary and benefits
- 401(k) Darcy matching program
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance
- Flexible vacation and company-paid holidays
- Paid parental, jury duty, family care, and medical leave
