About the Topic
Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) play a critical role in the decarbonization of aviation, being the most readily available option that the industry has today. Air travel accounts for 2 percent of annual energy-related CO2 emissions, and with more people expected to travel in years going forward, those emissions are only expected to increase. While hydrogen- and electric-powered flight will not be suitable for the most emission intensive flights any time soon, SAF can be used right now and within existing fleets. SAF will take to the sky as the best decarbonization method for aviation!
But SAF does not come without challenges. Scaling emerging technologies and the SAF supply chain is the biggest of these to be able to meet demand. In addition, SAF is more expensive than kerosene in an industry where margins are already thin. Should the customer be bearing the cost? And finally, regulatory alignment is needed to speed up the deployment of flights with 100% SAF.
This Event will bring together a panel with different lenses from industry - energy, aviation, and logistics - to discuss the biggest challenges to solve and the role the energy industry can play in getting this decarbonization AND business opportunity off the ground.
