About the Event

Lithium refining and crystallization are essential steps in producing battery-grade lithium. While Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) is gaining traction, it typically yields lithium chloride or sulfate solutions that require further processing. Refining and crystallization convert these intermediates into high-purity lithium hydroxide or carbonate - materials suitable for battery manufacturing.

Recent advancements in DLE have reduced the costs of purification, concentration, and crystallization. However, coordination across the full process chain is critical to improving overall efficiency. Upgrading lithium to its final product form often represents the largest portion of project costs, making the choice of refining partner a key strategic decision.

In this event, we’ll explore the latest innovations in lithium refining and crystallization, and highlight the leading players driving progress in lithium upgrading.

About the Speakers

This session will feature two innovators at the forefront of lithium upgrading:

  • Sheida Arfania, Manager of Process Solutions, Critical Minerals at Saltworks, will share insights on advancements in lithium refining and crystallization flow sheets aimed to improve the economics of DLE projects across diverse customer applications.
  • Jay Keener, Co-Founder and CEO at Altillion, will share their ALIX, or Advanced Liquid Ion Exchange, technology to purify and concentrate lithium prior to its crystallization.
