Summary Agenda

Join us for an insightful discussion on hydrogen blending in generation. We have Jeffrey Benoit, vice president of strategy, marketing, and hydrogen initiatives at PSM, in to speak about their hydrogen-blend capable retrofitting solutions and we will hear from Gilbert Shupe and Hank Courtright of Salt River Project, a current user of PSM's technology, about their hydrogen strategy and reason for choosing PSM for some recent projects.

PSM PRESENTATION:Perfect Partners - Utilizing Hydrogen-Capable Gas Turbines and Renewables as a Pathway to Total Power Generation Decarbonization

Renewable, carbon-free power generation continues its journey in transforming and reshaping the fundamental operational dynamics of the today’s utility grid. However, the inherent volatility and intermittency of renewable power requires a responsive, dispatchable, flexible and complimentary power generation and energy storage solution that will cost effectively counter load swings in a reliable, secure manner.

CO2 emissions from natural gas fired turbines used in power generation are substantially less intense than from coal power plants. Hydrogen (H2), when used as a fuel in a gas turbine, generates no CO2 emissions. If 100% H2 can be used as the fuel, then the power generated is totally carbon free. Additionally, H2 represents a carbon-free, grid-scale solution for seasonal energy storage that can be released and utilized to dispatch gas turbines when needed.

This session will focus on the technical challenges with using hydrogen and natural gas as fuel for the installed fleet of power generating gas turbines while maintaining ultra-low NOx emissions without the use of diluents such as water. Highlighted will be PSM’s HyFlex™ high-hydrogen capable combustion system retrofit platforms operating in OEM heavy-duty gas turbines and capable of up to 60% H2 by volume today. Product solution technology attributes, customer experiences and PSM’s development roadmap for 0% - 100% H2 capable retrofits systems will be shared.

The session participant will come away with an appreciation of the challenges and potential offered to power producers looking to repurpose and future-proof their existing gas turbine generation assets with decarbonizing retrofit solutions designed make them an integral part of tomorrow’s renewable dominated power infrastructure.
