Continuous Monitoring Technologies I: Earthview's Low Cost Solution
Technical • August 20, 2024 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM GMT
Continuous monitoring devices are gaining popularity in the O&G industry due to regulatory requirements, public demands, and commitment to emissions reduction. In this event, we’ll discuss the innovator landscape, benefits and challenges of this type of technology.

Methane Emissions
Summary Agenda

About the Topic

Continuous methane monitoring devices are gaining traction in the O&G industry due to stricter regulatory requirements, increased public and stakeholder demands, and the industry's commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. There's a significant push for more transparent emissions data from global voluntary initiatives like OGMP 2.0 and regulations such as the EPA's new methane rules.

Continuous methane monitoring solutions can be categorized into three types of solutions:

  • Camera-based systems, which commonly use OGI cameras to visualize methane plumes from a distance.
  • Laser-based systems, that offer high sensitivity and can cover large areas.
  • Point sensors, which require multiple devices to build a network and are often used for fence-line monitoring but can be closer to the sources in some cases.

Although continuous monitoring offers benefits like real-time alerts, regulatory compliance, and enhanced LDAR programs, it also presents challenges related to sensitivity, device integration and data management.

In this event, we'll highlight different continuous monitoring technologies, explore the innovator landscape, and discuss associated benefits and challenges.

About the Innovator

Earthview's patented technology consists of the BluBird sensor nodes, an industrial IoT hardware for methane and VOC monitoring. The hardware consists of an air sample intake tower that pumps air every 30 seconds to a box containing three metal oxide sensors. Each node has a weather station and a communication antenna. Their cloud platform allows to visualize the whole network of BluBird sensors, including wind direction, methane concentrations every 30 seconds, and pad emission quantification rate every 10 minutes. Earthview's business model is data as a service, charging a monthly fee per unit or per pad, with installation and maintenance on their end.

About the Speaker

Bear Givhan is the CEO and Co-Founder of Earthview and drives the company’s technology, vision, and growth. He began his career in methane monitoring as a commercial pilot, flying methane monitoring aircraft in nearly every oil and gas basin from Alaska to Mexico. Bear earned a BA, Geology, from the University of Colorado and is an instrument-rated commercial pilot.
