Ball-in-place systems offer dramatic cost savings for plug and perf applications by removing ball pump down times and associated fluid costs. Seeing this challenge as an opportunity, Longbow Completion Services has designed a frac plug from the ground up that captures the benefits of ball-in-place while removing risks. The patent pending REAPER frac plug replaces a standard frac ball by incorporating a "bullet" in the plug, which allows flow through the plug in the event of a gun misfire and uses rate from surface to achieve isolation. This eliminates the risks and costs of frac balls retrieval if guns misfire and enables ball-in-place operations for all plug and perf applications.
