Product Overview
Overview
Rokk Energy provides advanced multilateral drilling technology that enables the creation of multiple horizontal laterals from a single wellbore—both in new wells and sidetracked from existing ones. Their system supports fully cemented, high-pressure junctions (up to 15,000 psi), making it ideal for hydraulic fracturing and maximizing recovery from complex reservoirs. Their solutions, backed by experience from veterans of Weatherford and Schlumberger, focus on combining cemented lateral liner technology with a proprietary lateral biasing and orientation system, eliminating the need for whipstocks or hydraulically set anchors and allows for precise lateral placement and independent production control.
Rokk’s technology delivers both technical reliability and cost efficiency—reducing surface footprint, rig time, and stimulation complexity, while offering enhanced flexibility in well design and real-time reservoir testing.
Business Model
Offers off-the-shelf technology with proprietary innovations as field trial services and technical support for multi-lateral well installations. Currently, partnering with smaller operators, like Northern Smiledon, for installations.
Technology Innovations
- Proprietary Anchoring System: Rokk Energy has developed a patented anchoring system that provides inclination orientation, eliminating the need for traditional whipstocks or hydraulic set anchors, allowing bridge plugs to be set without logging. The system offers a precision locating device that allows for accurate placement and securing of liners. However, a logging run will precede cementing for orientation checks.
- Fully Cemented Junctions: Allows fracturing through multiple laterals with full pressure containment, unmatched by current alternatives. Junctions have been validated for 15,000 psi stimulation.
- Run-Laterals-in-Any-Order Design: Lateral re-entry and completion can be sequenced flexibly—ideal for adapting to reservoir behavior or operational changes mid-job.
- Adaptable Design: Rokk Energy's tools are compatible with both open-hole and cemented completions, making them versatile across various well designs.
- Operational Efficiency: Recent field trials showed 10-day lateral installation including milling, liner placement, and cementing. Innovations reduced trips and mitigated depth-related challenges with real-time adjustability.
Applications
- Orientation Without Logging Runs: Utilizes a 178 mm casing and a specialized milling system to accurately orient the whipstock—eliminating the need for additional logging runs post-installation.
- Unconventional Oil & Gas Development: Enables dual and multi-lateral completions, allowing operators to isolate, test, and stimulate individual laterals. This reduces well count, enhances per-lateral diagnostics, and maximizes EUR from a single wellhead by optimizing completions and improving reservoir drainage.
- Geothermal Development: Rokk Energy is exploring the use of their multi-lateral technology in high-temperature geothermal wells, providing potential efficiencies in drilling and energy production.
- Emissions Reduction & ESG Impact: The company's innovations also align with emissions-reduction initiatives such as the ERA grant in Alberta, targeting reductions in emissions through more efficient well designs.
