Darcy Partners
There's no shortage of lists to summarize the past year. But here at Darcy, we have a unique data set with activity on Darcy Connect from over 10,000 energy company Connect Users. Our data highlights which innovators gained most attention on Darcy Connect through views, clicks, likes, follows, meetings scheduled, fundings, among others. Combined with analysis from our Research Team about technology developments and market traction, we have selected the Top 10 Innovators from 2023 in each of our coverage channels. This is our way of saying: "these are the innovators that your peers are most interested in, so you should definitely go and learn more about them". In this article, you will find the Innovators that made it on the list in the category of Low Carbon Fuels.
But there is far more detail to look at than what you'll find here:
The Innovator names are all linked to their Storefront, where you can find in-depth information on their products, business models, our Research Team's opinion, and Connect Users are even able to schedule meetings with the Innovators.
Over the next weeks, you will find weekly articles like this with Top 10 lists from our Energy Transition Research Program as we work through the coverage areas of CCUS, Hydrogen, Low Carbon Fuels, and New Energies.
All articles will be followed by a Darcy Live Event. We will address the State of Innovation in Low Carbon Fuels on February 27th.
The Top 10 Innovators from 2023 in Low Carbon Fuels are (in random order):
Amogy: sustainable energy startup, working on a carbon-free energy system using ammonia as a fuel for ground, sea, air transportations. Amogy secured significant funding -$139 million Series B-1, $11 million Series B-2. Besides, Amogy signed MoU during 2023 with Hy2gen Norge, and AZANE Fuel Solutions, and a strategic partnership with Mitsubishi Corporation.
Verde Clean Fuels: developed technology 'syngas-to-gasoline plus' (STG+®) turning waste feedstocks like biomass, municipal solid waste, and renewable natural gas, into gasoline or methanol. The company went into Nasdaq, has three projects under current development and four early ones in the pipeline. In addition, they announced a carbon dioxide management agreement with TerraVault.
Liquid Wind: develop and manage facilities to convert carbon dioxide emissions and green hydrogen into eMethanol for the shipping, road transport and chemical industry. First commercial-scale eMethanol facility underdevelopment in Sweden. Besides, Liquid Wind awarded the prestigious Swedish E-Prize 2023.
Divert: is a recycler that solves the challenge of retail unsold food waste toward eliminating it from this industry and producing renewable natural gas (RNG). Partner with Enbridge Inc. they are moving forward with a construction of wasted food-to-RNG plant in Longview, Wash - $1-billion infrastructure development agreement.
Raven SR: using organic waste and convert it to clean hydrogen and synthetic Fischer-Tropsch fuels through a patented Steam/CO2 Reforming process. All Nippon Airways and Japan Airlines agreements to supply with SAF with a 10-year supply deal. Furthermore, Raven SR and Cap Clean Energy will collaborate in Canadian SAF and Renewable Diesel projects to co-develop a portfolio of bioenergy with carbon capture and sequestration (BECCS) opportunities.
Fulcrum Bioenergy: producing renewable, drop-in transportation fuels - jet fuel, diesel, and ethanol - from landfill waste - household garbage. Actively producing biocrude, shipped first railcar of syncrude made from landfill waste for upgrading into fuel. Besides, awarded with a £16.8 million grant from the UK Department for Transport Advanced Fuels Fund to fund the engineering of the Waste-To-Fuels project (capacity of 600,000 ton / residual waste for SAF production).
Infinium: an electrofuels provider of synthetic fuels (like SAF) made using renewable power and waste carbon dioxide for existing trucks, planes and ships. Infinium and Breakthrough Energy Catalyst today announced a $75 million project equity investment commitment to support Infinium’s Project Roadrunner. Also, Infinium won Energy Transition Technology of the Year Award from S&P Global.
SkyNRGl: supplier and producer of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) from organic biomass, with operations certified by RSB and CORSIA. SkyNRG partner with LOT Polish Airlines for SAF offtake and was supported with an initial investment of up to €175 million via the Macquarie GIG Energy Transition Solutions (MGETS) Fund to support the growth of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF).
Enerkem: producer of biofuels - like methanol, ethanol - and chemicals from municipal solid waste. Their facilities are built as prefabricated modular systems. Enerkem is collaborating with Dimeta on large scale waste-to-DME (di-methyl ether) projects in Europe and the USA. Additionally, they are joining forces with Technip Energies on Waste-to-Biofuels and circular chemicals technology deployment.
LanzaJet: producer of sustainable fuels with patented technology, like LanzaJetTM Alcohol-to-Jet (AtJ) technology, creating sustainable avition fuel (SAF) and renewable diesel from waste and sustainable ethanol sources - include ethanol created from feedstocks such as sugarcane, energy crops, forest residuals, agricultural wastes, and organic waste. During 2023, LanzaJet received EPA fuel path approval. They finalized their plant construction Freedom Pines Fuels in Soperton, Georgia. Moreover, they had build strategic partnership with Airbus - to collaborate on SAF production, Technip Energies - to accelerate global SAF deployment and Indian Oil company - with whom they signed a MoU.
