Darcy has introduced a new type of event called Innovator Spotlights to give more ways for Operators to learn about emerging technology. See how we are using Spotlights and 4 recent and upcoming Spotlighted Innovators.

You may have noticed a new type of event on the Darcy Calendar called Innovator Spotlights. Over our 5 year history we have been obsessive about how to create the optimal experience for Operators to learn about emerging technologies. That has lead to the Presentation – Q&A – User Discussion model.
- 10 minute Innovator Presentation
- 15 minutes of Q&A with the Innovator among all your peer Operators, where you get to learn from the questions coming from experts around the industry
- 15 minutes of Discussion with a User of the technology (without the Innovator in the room) to get the good and the bad of working with the technology.
We believe there is no faster way to learn about and diligence an Innovator. But, we also realize that sometimes this model is just not a perfect fit, therefore we have created Innovator Spotlights designed with a more flexible 30 minute to 1 hour structure. This flexibility allows for an Innovator to go deeper into the technology underlying their products than a 10 minute presentation would allow. Or allow for a deep dive into a Case Study with an Operator. Or allow for a longer Q&A among Peers….you get the picture. With this flexibility, here are 4 types of scenarios where we are using Innovator Spotlights today.
1 – Potentially Disruptive Early Stage Startups
The sweet spot of Darcy’s Research focuses on Innovators that have a commercial or near commercial product and have completed pilots or deployments in the field. Sometimes we just really want to highlight potentially disruptive (and riskier) early stage technologies.
For example, on Sept 30th we will host an Innovator Spotlight with OriGen.ai, who are pushing forward truly AI enabled Reservoir Simulation with the goal of taking simulations that typically take hours or days to run and executing in seconds. Click here to register.
2 – Newly Released Case Studies
Case studies are a well-worn path to explain a technology and its adoption that have been valuable for both the Innovator and the Operator to highlight their work. Often these case studies and papers require months or a year plus to be published or presented at conferences like URTeC, OTC, etc. At Darcy, our goal is to cut that timeline by an order of magnitude to get Case Studies into the community without delay. Knowledge should move faster and we intend to enable it.
In August, Silixa presented an Innovator Spotlight on their use of permanent Fiber Optic installations in subsea developments for continuous reservoir monitoring and low cost 4D seismic acquisition, highlighting deployments with both BP and Equinor. Click here to see the presentation and recording.
3 – New Product Launches from Existing Innovators
Innovation is not static and just because you saw an innovator a year ago does not mean you know where they are today. Our goal is to keep you up to date on where Innovators are today. We are often asked by successful past Darcy Presenters if they can launch their new product on the Darcy Platform. The Innovator Spotlight is a platform for new product launches from known Innovators.
Last week on Sept 15, Andium launched their continuous flare pilot light monitoring system using computer vision technology at an Innovator Spotlight, giving them time to dive deep into the new product with Darcy Members and for Members to ask deep questions into the systems capabilities and commercial model. Click here to see the presentation and recording.
4 – Niche Topics with Potentially High Value, But a Smaller Applicable Audience
Sometimes we see incredible innovations occurring in one segment of an industry that may not be fully applicable (yet!) to the rest of the industry. In October we will have an Innovator Spotlight with CoreAll, who are bringing intelligence to coring through logging while coring technology and eventually the ability to drill and core on a single run. Currently, this technology is targeting the offshore market where drilling day rates are sky high. Final date and registration details coming soon.
Please let us know if there are Innovators that you would like to see highlighted at an Innovator Spotlight and expect more Spotlights and creative ways to collaborate coming on your calendars soon.
