From our Energy Transition coverage we have seen that CCUS seems to be the one with more traction, considered for many, as the first solution to apply given the existing technology and available infrastructure. The hype for Capture is slowly starting to fade away, leaving space for new questions. What can I do with the carbon I capture? Who can help me map my emissions? What do voluntary markets look like? Can I profit from them? How?

We have also seen, that investment and demand in that direction is not slowing down. The new infrastructure bill commits the US to fund some demonstration projects that should allow for 1.2 Mtpa capacity by 2026, by injecting $1 Billion on demonstrations alone (Though not as large as expected, also not declining). We were also in conversation with several companies that have already applied and are waiting for the Class VI well permits to be approved.

As the Darcy Team looks towards our 2022 Energy Transition research program, and taking into account the manifested interests on the topic, we will continue to dive into the different CCUS technologies available. To that end, our team has put together a framework outlining the carbon value chain. We classified the capture vendors according to the type of technology used and the utilization ones by assigning them the right end-use. We have also added some cross-cutting companies that should be able to help along the way.
