Product Overview

Overview

Electriq~Global was founded in 2014. Headquarters and R&D operations are placed in Israel, they hold business activities in the Netherlands subsidiary, and head their corporate base in Australia.

The company provides a dry powder hydrogen storage and transportation solution, aiming to have softer operation conditions and lower safety considerations than compression and LOHC technologies, addressing the off-grid applications diesel generators do nowadays.

The hydrogen powder compound is generated using Potassium Metaborate (KBO2) and can be transported and stored in compact ways as boxes and bags. The dehydrogenating unit utilizes water and a catalyzer to recover the molecular hydrogen and generates electricity through a fuel cell.

Business Model

Electriq~Global aims to commercialize modular units for remote electricity generation, their customers are to be those diesel generator users that are seeking a change based on green energy.

The company is now seeking partners, both upstream and downstream, to pilot the solution on a greater scale.

Technology Innovations

The Electriq~Global solution (Powder-To-Power) is composed by two units:

  • Electriq Powder Production & Recycling

    • In the powder facility the hydrogen is bonded to KBO2 generating Potassium Tetrahydroborate (KBH4), a dry powder compound.
    • The powder can be stored and transported in compact boxes or bags at atmospheric pressure.
    • Powder is to be packed in capsules to be used in the SHRS unit afterwards (The capsule packaging can be sent for recycling after usage).
  • Electriq Solid Hydrogen Release System (SHRS)

    • KBH4 capsules are mixed with water at 50°C in the blender, creating a liquid fuel.
    • In the reaction chamber, catalytic plates immerse into the liquid fuel at 6 bar of pressure, obtaining the hydrogen back into its molecular form. The molecular hydrogen obtained is composed of both hydrogen stored and hydrogen from water.
    • Catalytic plates offer a controlled releasing reaction on-demand.
    • KBO2 is obtained as a secondary product and recycled to the powder production unit.
    • After hydrogen is released, hydrogen goes to a fuel cell to generate electricity on-site and on-demand.
Applications

The Electriq~Global solution targets off-grid power in areas as:

  • Mobile power for construction sites
  • Power for critical backup infrastructure
  • Microgrid and auxiliary power
  • EV Charging

Additional applications after reaching scale would include:

  • Inland vessels
  • Heavy machinery
  • Defense applications
